A new house design was required for this large flat site on the edge of the Waikanae River and Otaihanga estuary. The brief was for a large family home with a river lodge feel and style. Light, spacious and classical themes were key aspects the owners wanted to achieve as well as indoor/outdoor living.
Otaihanga Estuary House, Interior
Stone/cedar cladding were selected and with gable roof forms with large soffits, exposed cedar trusses and Gerald shingle roofing tiles, giving the house a strong lodge form and style. Interior finishes are Oak flooring, cedar vaulted ceilings with exposed cedar trusses, feature wall paper and paint finishes. The extent of the site is hard landscaped with purple heart decking, stone walls and gardens.
